Dear Members,
Our 1812 Naval Dinner is coming up this Saturday, April 30, and I wanted to take one last opportunity to invite you to join the Club's officers (including me) for a dinner inspired by the seagoing adventures of Patrick O'Brian's Captain Jack Aubrey and Dr. Stephen Maturin.
Dinner starts at four bells (6:00 p.m.). You can reserve a seat at the captain's table via Susan Converso, 917-225-6469, msconverso@optonline.net. (Please see the message below for the menu.)
The Master and Commander books are great reads. Rather than clutter your Inbox with my enthusiasm, though, I've added some brief posts on the books, Saturday's menu, and O'Brian's own unlikely life to the Club's Entertainment and Restaurant forum.
Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday evening, I remain,
Yr obd't svt,
Douglas McCormick

It was an outstanding event! Well received by all who attended!
This sounds like a great event Doug. Thanks for arranging it. Sorry I'm going to have to miss it due to a conflict. I've read all the books, most of them twice. I also recommend A Sea of Words by Dean King. It's essentially a glossary to all the terms O'Brian uses.
