2007 Club Cruise: Fleet Captain's Report

2007 Club Cruise: Fleet Captain's Report

This year's club cruise had the best weather and calmest seas for an eastbound trip that any of us could remember. Thanks to Selwyn Feinstein's early planning, we enjoyed favorable currents on each leg of the trip. That extra knot or two really helped, especially for our sailboat cruisers when there was little or no wind. The power boaters, when they fueled up, appreciated it as well. We got to our destinations early enough each day to relax and enjoy the port without the exhaustion that often accompanies long arduous travel.
Altogether, at one time or another, there were 8 boats. There were 4 that did the entire trip, Kathy-Lew, Summer Wind, ILENE and Blast. Wind Runner, was with us for about 6 nights and we saw Euphoria II, White Star and Dancing Barefoot each for a day. Phil and Amy Weiss, from The City Island YC, aboard their Hunter 40, Quadrill, were with us for about 4 days. In addition, the Rogans and the Schulmans joined us for cocktails and dinner while we were in Milford, CT.

The one day of rain we had caused us to spend two nights in Port Jeff, rather than the originally planned one night, so we decided to cut our three night stay in Shelter to two. It all worked out fine.

We did two theme nights: "Pan Asian" and "International". Both worked out well with no one leaving hungry, thirsty or falling overboard.

A good time, I believe, was had by all. We ate good and had a minimum number of minor mishaps that were all corrected or correctable when we returned home. No trip with outboards and dinghies goes without some frustration and each of us, in turn, experienced our own. Fortunately, we were always just a few yards from friends and a helping tow saved the day.
